So we are finally in our new house near the church. It's been an adventure for sure. Looking back a lot of unwanted stress but it will be worth it in the end when we are settled in.
So a funny thing happened today. You see, we have a driveway, which is rare in this area of Amman. Before we moved in people would always park their cars there. It was kind of an annoyance as we have been working on the house the past few months. Well I thought that it would stop once we moved in... that is not the case. Every once in a while, I wake up and go to leave and I am blocked in. This morning that was the situation I found myself in. So as usual I started the van and then laid on the horn a few times. Normally, after a few minutes someone will come and move the car. But this morning was different. Here is what happened:
After laying on the horn for a minute I see a young boy (5yrs old) coming out of the house across the way. I notice he has a key in his hand. I'm thinking to myself, "whoa, he's kinda young to be moving the car." Then I realize that he is walking toward me. He proceeds to hold the key up to me and ask me to move it. I asked him, "Is this your dad's car?" To which he says, "No, it's my uncles and he is sleeping." So I figure at this point if I am going to make it to church on time the I better just move it. As I walk toward the car this OLD lady comes out of the house to supervise I guess. I take the key from the boy and move the car parking it in front of their house. As I get out car the OLD lady is motioning to me to move the car to another place. As I approach her she says,"You need to move it there! This is not a good place, someone might hit it here." At this point I laugh thinking to myself, "First, you block my driveway. Then you make me move your car, and now your not happy with where I put it." Then I say to her with a smile, "Ma'am, I'm sorry, but that is not my responsibility. I think this is a great place for your car." At this point a younger lady yell's from the balcony of their second floor, "Khallas, ma fi mushkilli." Which means, "Enough, there is no problem." Then the OLD lady takes the key and shuffles toward the house.
We will see what tomorrow holds.
